Decatur police pursued and stopped a vehicle early Saturday for traffic violations and netted more than 20 pounds of marijuana.

Police also confiscated a loaded AR-15 .223-caliber gun.

Police arrested the driver, a 16-year-old male juvenile, but his passenger escaped.

According to a press release, when police attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver led patrol units on a lengthy chase that ended in the alleyway behind 1208 Eighth Street S.E.

Police said that once the vehicle stopped, both occupants bolted, with police capturing the driver.

A subsequent search of the vehicle, police said, produced the marijuana and the gun.

Police charged the driver with trafficking in marijuana and transferred him to Morgan County juvenile authorities. Authorities continue to search for the male passenger. They did not release the suspects' names.
