MEETING NOTES
Decatur City Council

The Decatur City Council conducted the following business during a work session at 6 p.m. Monday at City Hall:

  • Set a public hearing for a request to rezone 2.73 acres north of Alabama 20, south of Island Way, from R-4 Multi-Family Residential to RD Mixed-Use Residential Development, 7 p.m. Dec. 3.

  • Set a public hearing for a request to rezone 5.42 acres on Modaus Road, east of Danville Road, from R-2 Single-Family Residential to B-6 Business Office-Use, 7 p.m. Dec. 3.

  • Discussed vacating a Decatur Utilities easement on Lot 9 of the Vestavia Hills Subdivision.

  • Discussed vacating a 60-foot right of way north of Alabama 20, east of Sewell Road for Nucor Steel.

  • Discussed awarding a contract for furnishing and delivering file jackets for the municipal court to Russell and Associates, $8,746.50.

  • Discussed approving a Decatur Municipal Utilities Board expenditure of $289,813 for property liability insurance.

  • Discussed approving a Decatur Municipal Utilities Board expenditure of $121,260 for pump repairs at the water treatment plant.

  • Discussed approving a Decatur Municipal Utilities Board expenditure of $650,000 for a one-year extension to a sewer line repair service contract with Randy B. Terry Inc.

  • Discussed accepting a Decatur Utilities proposal for the installation of lighting on Sims Street, $13,500.

  • Discussed authorizing Mayor Don Kyle to apply for law-enforcement and traffic safety grant funds from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs to purchase an all-terrain vehicle for the Police Department.

  • Discussed changing the dental insurance program for city employees to a preferred provider organization.

  • Set a public hearing to consider transferring ownership of an off-premise beer and wine license at Busy Bee Market on 19th Avenue Southeast, 6 p.m. Monday.

  • Discussed accepting a proposal from CDG Engineers and Associates in the amount of $125,780 for design services and $23,500 for additional design services for a new road to connect Modaus Road and Auburn Drive.

  • Added a measure to consider extending franchise negotiations with Private Cable Limited of Athens.

  • Added a measure to consider partnering with Waterfront Investments LLC for work on Market Street.

  • Added a measure to consider entering negotiations for purchasing land near Point Mallard Park.
