Shedding light on domestic violence
Misty Rogers, 27, reflects during Tuesday night's candlelight vigil in memory of the 16 Morgan County victims who died from domestic violence in recent years.
Rogers, a mother of four, credits Crisis Services of North Alabama for encouraging her to stay away from her abusive husband. She was among 25 people who attended the service at Delano Park.
Several women spoke of how Hope Place, a shelter run by Crisis Services, helped them escape the cycle of violence. Since 2002, Hope Place has provided shelter to 1,306 men, women and children and assisted 4,916 outside the shelter.
October is National Domestic Abuse Awareness Month.
