Army probes noose at Anniston depot
ANNISTON (AP) — City leaders passed a resolution condemning racism and offering assistance with the investigation of a noose found hanging on a utility pole at the Anniston Army Depot, but the military said Wednesday there was nothing local officials could do to help.
Joan Gustafson, a spokeswoman at the installation, said the military already was investigating the incident. No motive or suspects have been identified.
A rope that the military initially described as a noose was found tied to a pole near a building Oct. 2.
In an interview, Gustafson said the rope was more like a slipknot than a noose, with fewer loops than a classic hangman’s noose.
