Refuge hosting raptor program Saturday

Saturday offers a chance to get up close and personal with birds of prey at Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge.

It's the first of many wildlife, environmental and outdoor activities the refuge and the Wheeler Wildlife Refuge Association will offer leading up to the refuge's 70th anniversary celebration in September 2008.

The raptor program will be at the Wheeler Visitors Center from 2 to 4 p.m., featuring Curt Cearley, a master falconer who also assists in raptor rescue. His discussions will include live raptors. Tommy White, a refuge volunteer, also will discuss the North American Kestrel nesting box trail and the support he provides to the refuge. For more information, call 350-6639.
