Decatur police arrest 12 during drug operation
By Holly Hollman
Police nabbed a dozen Decatur residents during an undercover drug operation this month.
Decatur police Lt. Frank DeButy said a “heavy quantity of complaints” from citizens and business owners led to an ongoing undercover operation by the Special Operations Division in the area of 12th Avenue and Moulton Street Northwest.
Police arrested suspects on charges ranging from drug related to theft to public intoxication.
DeButy said the operation continues and includes educating the public on the negative influence of the drug trade and how to stop “this scourge.”
Teenagers were among those police arrested, including a teen driver who led patrol units on a chase.
Units chased Tremayne O’Neal Gilbert, 16, of 118 Eighth Ave. N.W., on Oct. 6.
After catching him, police found 20 pounds of marijuana and a loaded AR-15 rifle in the vehicle.
Police charged him as an adult with trafficking marijuana.
A passenger in the car fled, but police later captured him. A police press release did not indicate who on the list of those arrested was the passenger.
The people arrested and their charges are as listed.
