AREA NEWS IN BRIEF

Hartselle to meet about cage fighting

The Hartselle City Council will meet Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. to discuss how to license and regulate cage fighting.

The meeting is at City Hall and is open to the public.

Cage fighting has been a controversial issue here since Councilman Bill Drake questioned the legality of the sport.

The city sought an attorney general’s opinion, which stated that state law does not regulate the sport. After that, the council decided to adopt its own rules.

Man charged with credit card fraud

MOULTON — A Hillsboro man was out of jail on $3,000 bond Tuesday after being arrested and charged with three counts of fraudulent use of a credit card, according to Law-rence County Sheriff Gene Mitchell.

Investigators with the Sheriff’s Department and the Moulton Police Department arrested Joshua Curtis May, 19, of 404 Lawrence County 427 on Tuesday. Mitchell said investigators were able to develop May as a suspect after a debit card was stolen from a residence in Hillsboro.

Investigators later determined that May allegedly used the stolen debit card at one bank in the East Lawrence area and two banks in Moulton.

The crimes occurred Oct. 16, Mitchell said.
