MEETING NOTES
Decatur City Council

The Decatur City Council conducted the following business during Monday's meeting:

  • Set a public hearing for a request to rezone 2.73 acres north of Alabama 20 and south of Island Way from R-4 Multi-Family Residential to RD Mixed Use Redevelopment District for 7 p.m. Dec. 3.

  • Set a public hearing for a request to rezone 5.42 acres located on Modaus Road east of Danville Road and West of Centron Drive from R-2 Single-Family Residential to B-6 Bus-iness Office Use for 7 p.m. Dec. 3.

  • Approved a request to vacate a utility easement on Lot 9 of the Vestavia Hills Subdivision for James Bell and Elizabeth Bell.

  • Approved a request to vacate a 60-foot right of way north of Alabama 20 and east of Sewell Road for Nucor Steel.

  • Awarded a contract to Russell and Associates for furnishing and delivering case-file jackets at a cost of $8,746.50.

  • Approved a $289,813 Municipal Utilities Board expenditure for 2008 property liability insurance.

  • Approved a $121,260 Municipal Utilities Board expenditure to repair a pump at the Water Treatment Plant.

  • Approved a $650,000 Municipal Utilities Board expenditure for a one-year extension to a contract with Randy B. Terry Inc. to provide sewer repair and replacement services.

  • Authorized Mayor Don Kyle to sign an amendment to the wholesale power contract with the Tennessee Valley Authority.

  • Authorized Kyle to apply for a grant from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs to purchase an all-terrain vehicle for the Police Department.

  • Accepted a proposal from Decatur Utilities to install lighting on Sims Street at a cost of $13,500.

  • Tabled a motion to change the city's dental insurance program to a preferred-provider organization.

  • Approved a request to transfer ownership of an off-premise beer and wine license at Busy Bee Market, 1010 19th Ave. S.E.

  • Extended until Jan. 7 a franchise agreement with Private Cable Limited of Athens.
