TriGreen Equipment moving office from Madison to Athens

By Holly Hollman

ATHENS — A John Deere supplier is moving its corporate office from Madison to Athens.

TriGreen Equipment sought a zoning change Tuesday from the Athens Planning Commission so it can move its corporate office to 18.42 acres north of the Sportsplex and between U.S. 31 and Interstate 65.

Engineer Taz Morell said TriGreen operates stores in Alabama, Tennessee and Mississippi.

Locally, there are stores in Athens, Decatur and Cullman.

Morell said the site will include offices and a repair area for high-tech tractors.

He said it is not feasible for each John Deere dealer to hire a mechanic to work on tractors with global positioning systems, so that work will be done on this proposed site.

GPS tractors, for example, help farmers determine how much or how little fertilizer to use.

The commission unanimously approved recommending to the City Council to rezone the acreage.

The rezone request is from agriculture to highway business district.

This would be the first development on U.S. 31 north of the Sportsplex. A Jack's restaurant and Walgreen's pharmacy are new developments on U.S. 31 south of the facility.
