DU tables decision on retiree pay

The Decatur Utilities board tabled a resolution approving a one-time payment to retirees.

The Alabama Legislature adopted Act 257 in May to pay retirees, who retire before Dec. 14, 2007, a dollar for each month worked.

With 31 retirees in the state retirement system, DU’s estimated cost totals $10,520.

The board postponed a decision due to the absence of board Secretary Glynn Tubb. Before the meeting, Tubb raised concerns to Interim General Manager Stan Keenum about the need to establish a maximum amount of money DU would not exceed.

Chairman Neal Holland and board member Hugh Hillhouse expect to discuss the issue with Tubb and decide by the end of October. Holland expects the board will approve the resolution.
