Decatur City Board of Education

On Thursday, the Decatur City Board of Education:

  • Approved a resolution recognizing Nov. 11-17 as American Education Week.

  • Approved a resolution nominating Eric Fleischauer, reporter, The Decatur Daily, and Bobby Shuttleworth, television reporter, WAFF television, to the Alabama Association of School Boards’ Education Media Honor Roll for 2007.

  • Held a first reading of proposed changes to the staff rights and responsibilities as part of the Drug Free Work Place policy.

  • Awarded a contract to Alabama Roofing and Sheet Metal of Anniston to re-roof the central office for $74,995.

  • Voted for Pam Doyle of the Muscle Shoals Board of Education to serve as president of the Alabama Association of School Boards. Jimmy Dobbs of the Morgan County Board of Education is also running for the position. Certified personnel

  • Accepted the resignation of Jerry Lindsey, science, Decatur High.

  • Accepted the retirement of Janet G. Chenault, language arts, Oak Park Middle School.

  • Hired Freda G. Andrews, social studies, Austin High; Ann T. Ozier, reading, Austin; Brooke Crenshaw Davis, second grade, Banks-Caddell Elementary; Patricia B. Siek, science, Decatur High; Linda Kay Sanders Lee, art, Eastwood Elementary; Mandi Ellyn Hastings Jones, eighth-grade academy mathematics, Horizon High; and Martha Evans Mummert, kindergarten, Julian Harris Elementary.

  • Approved leaves of absence for Morgan Coulter, Decatur High; Frankie Strong, Frances Nungester Elementary; Heather Bouchillon, Special Services Center; Courtney A. Brewer, West Decatur Elementary; and Autumn Schlagenhauf, Woodmeade Elementary.

    Non-certified personnel

  • Accepted the resignations of Janice Marie McClellan, Child Nutrition Program worker, Austinville Elementary; Dennis Albert Webb, custodian, Banks-Caddell Elementary; Gale Hubbard, CNP worker, Professional Training Center; and Cheryl Arnold-Deckert, teacher aide, Somerville Road Elementary.

  • Accepted the retirement of Jane W. Blevins, office manager/certification officer, central office.

  • Hired Marietta S. Hill, teacher aide, physical education, Chestnut Grove Elementary; Robbie Jean Harris, school nurse, licensed nurse practitioner, Special Services Center; and Rusty J. David McIntyre, teacher aide, special education, Special Services Center.
