Decatur-Morgan County Convention and Visitors Bureau

The Decatur-Morgan County Convention and Visitors Bureau conducted the following business during its monthly meeting Thursday:

  • Reported that the city collected $70,636 in lodging taxes in July, up 3 percent from last year.

  • Reported the room occupancy rate for July was 50 percent, the second highest for that month since records began in 2002.

  • Reported the $1.50 per night room occupancy tax generated $32,736 dollars in July; the 2006-07 fiscal year collection was $384,059.

  • Reported the new full-time housing bureau (hotel reservations) booked $2,891 worth of hotel rooms in September. The bureau gets a 5 percent commission.

  • Reported that the housing bureau (dating back through the summer) booked 1,268 room nights for the State Cup Soccer Tournament Nov. 2-3 and 850 room nights for the Governor’s Cup Soccer Tournament Nov. 9-10.

  • Announced Squee Bailey, bureau sales coordinator, won the Lasting Impressions Award from the Alabama Mountain Lakes Association and Lori Boger, bureau group sales director, is a finalist for the Alabama Hospitality Association’s Employee of the Year.
