Parenting Day

Decatur City Schools will hold Parenting Day on Tuesday. Parents need to contact their child’s school and set up a time for a parent-teacher conference between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Parenting Day is part of a statewide emphasis on parental involvement in schools during October.

Samford White Coat

These area students participated in a White Coat ceremony for members of the Class of 2011 at Samford University’s McWhorter School of Pharmacy. They are, by town:

Athens: Sara Black, daughter of Diana and Jess Black.

Decatur: Aundria Baldwin, daughter of Leila and Kent Speegle; Lanae Holaway, daughter of Connie Hulsey and Donny Holaway; Ashley Mardis, daughter of Rebecca and Blaine Mardis.

Hartselle: Marianne Hayes, daughter of Sue and Bill Hayes; Lizzie Hendrix, daughter of Tonya and Mark Hendrix.

Moulton: Corey Britton, son of Janet and Robert Britton; Emily Little, daughter of Deborah and Danny Little.

The Sept. 28 ceremony included the presentation of a white coat to each student, and the administration of the pledge to
the American Pharmaceutical Association’s code of professionalism.

Calhoun CMT applications

Calhoun Community College is accepting applications for scholarships for students majoring in or planning to major in computer information systems, math, pre-engineering, and advanced technology (aerospace technology, industrial maintenance technology, machine tool technology, process technology, design drafting, instrumentation and air-conditioning/refrigeration) this spring. Incoming and current students may apply.

The Computer Science, Mathematics and Technology Academic Rewards Program assists students who do well academically through financial awards and participation in enhanced, discipline-specific support services.
