2 wrecks kill 3; 2 critical

Two Vinemont residents were in Huntsville Hospital on Saturday receiving treatment for injuries suffered during a wreck that killed a Hartselle woman and a Vinemont man a day earlier, Cullman County Coroner Gary Murphree said.

Another wreck claimed the life of one person and left two others in critical condition Saturday, Lawrence County Coroner Micah Coffey said. The victims of the Saturday wreck were reportedly from Alabaster, he said.

Scherry Clark, 18, of Hartselle and Steve Faulkner, 50, of Vinemont died Friday when a vehicle driven by Cynthia Bright of Vinemont left Cullman County 1246, Murphree said.

The wreck happened about 5:30 p.m. one mile south of West Point, Alabama state troopers said.

Bright, whose age was not available, and another passenger, Matthew Moore, 30, of Vinemont, were taken by helicopter to Huntsville Hospital, Murphree said.

A spokeswoman for Huntsville Hospital said Moore was in stable condition and Bright was in a surgical intensive care unit Saturday.

Murphree said Clark was a Cullman County native who had moved to Hartselle.

Troopers were not releasing the name of the person who died in the Saturday wreck because the person’s family hadn’t been notified, a spokesman for the troopers said.

Coffey said the wreck occurred about 9:30 a.m. on Alabama 157 between Moulton and Hatton. A pickup was traveling west on Alabama 157 about 11/2 miles east of the Alabama 101 intersection when the driver lost control and the vehicle flipped several times, Coffey said.

Two people in the truck were taken by helicopter to Huntsville Hospital and were in critical condition, Coffey said. Their names were not available Saturday.
