Coach grand marshal of Austin homecoming

Longtime coach Billy Miles will be the grand marshal of Austin High School’s homecoming this week.

The Black Bears take on Buckhorn on Friday at 7 p.m. at Ogle Stadium.

Miles coached baseball and girls basketball and was an assistant football coach during his tenure at Austin.

One of five seniors will be crowned homecoming queen at halftime of the game: Rudi Acklin, Mary Cain, Andrea Crayton, Hannah Wirey and Anna Marie Zellner.

Joining them on the homecoming court:

Senior attendants — Lindsey Rogers and Katelyn Bennett.

Junior attendants — Desiree Harrison, Danielle Jones and Sarah Free.

Sophomore attendants — Ajia Johnson and Amy Anderson.

Freshman attendants — Jasma Pruitt and Dakesha Davis.

The traditional homecoming parade is Thursday at 6 p.m. Students may begin working on their floats Wednesday.

The parade will start at the Old State Bank and end at Banks-Caddell Elementary School.

First-period classes will decorate their teachers’ doors. Judging will be during first and second periods Friday.

Winners will be announced before lunch.

Assembly

The homecoming assembly for juniors and seniors will be Thursday during club time in the auditorium.

The assembly will include recognition of Miles as grand marshal and Ann Faulk, Alan Watkins and Richie Simon talking about Austin in the 1990s.

Terry Moore will introduce the homecoming court.
