Rudy Giuliani files qualifying papers for Alabama's primary

BIRMINGHAM (AP) — Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani made it official Wednesday that he's a candidate in Alabama's Republican presidential primary on Feb. 5.

Giuliani's state campaign co-chairman, Jerry Lathan, filed qualifying papers at the state Republican Party headquarters.

Lathan, a roofing contractor from Mobile and a vice chairman of the Alabama Republican Party, said he believes Giuliani's economic record and his record of making New York safer will appeal to Alabama voters.
