U.S. Naval Academy

U.S. Navy Ensign Robert A. Green received his degree from the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md., on May 25, and was commissioned as an officer in the Navy. He earned his bachelor of science degree in political science and is serving as a division officer aboard the USS Mason, whose home port is in Norfolk, Va.

Green is a 2002 graduate of Covenant Christian Academy in Huntsville and is the son of Robert and Jill Green of Decatur.

Teacher of the year

Betty Hamilton Duncan of Huntsville, formerly of Decatur, has been named the Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club Teacher of the Year for Alabama. She is an instructor at the Academy of Science and Foreign Language in Huntsville. Huntsville Mayor Loretta Spencer proclaimed Oct. 23 as Betty Duncan Day.

Duncan is a 1962 Decatur High School graduate. Her husband, Jim, is also a Decatur High graduate, and they are former members of the Decatur Jaycees.

Miller honored

Sarah Leanne Miller of Decatur has been inducted into the Order of Gownsmen at the University of the South, Sewanee, Tenn. Gownsmen are chosen based on academic achievement.

Miller is the daughter of Cynthia Miller and Roger Miller.
