Teenager killed in wreck

HOLLY POND — A one-vehicle accident on U.S. 278 claimed the life of a teenage driver Sunday morning.

Cullman County Coroner Gary Murphree pronounced Jared Fredrick Denny, 18, dead at 5:06 a.m. State troopers responded to the wreck at 4 a.m.

Denny, who lived on U.S. 231 in Blountsville, was traveling alone, Murphree said. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to a trooper report.

“It appeared that the car left the road and overturned more than once,” Murphree said.

The coroner said Denny probably died before the vehicle came to a rest. He said he saw no sign of alcohol and testing is the only way to determine whether alcohol was involved.

The accident occurred one mile east of Holly Pond. A trooper report gave sketchy details about the accident. Personnel at the Decatur post said the wreck was under investigation.

Murphree said a trooper notified Denny’s family members, who had his body transferred to a funeral home.
