Man run over, says sister was driving

A car ran over a man, and he told police his sister was behind the wheel, Decatur police said Monday.

The driver apparently left the scene after hitting Robert Lamont Key, 45, in the driveway of 423 Eighth St. S.W. shortly before 11:30 p.m. Friday, police said.

An ambulance took Key to Decatur General Hospital. The hospital admitted him but later transferred him to Huntsville Hospital, a nurse supervisor said.

Key was in a regular room at Huntsville Hospital on Monday, but further information about his condition was not available.

“It appears he might have some broken bones in his legs,” said Capt. Vince Baer, a police spokesman.

Baer said that according to a report filed by Key:

A dispute involving his sister and her boyfriend ended with the boyfriend leaving the residence. Shortly after, Key’s sister went to her car.

“She told her brother to get out from behind the car, then got in and started up and accelerated in reverse,” running Key over, Baer said.

No arrests had been made as of Monday afternoon.
