Byrne chooses Ill. educator for Snead

BIRMINGHAM (AP) — Two-year Chancellor Bradley Byrne has picked a former Illinois college president as his choice to lead Snead State Community College.

Byrne will recommend Robert J. Exley to the State Board of Education next week and ask them to approve his hiring as president of the Boaz college.

Exley, who was president of Parkland College in Champaign, Ill., is Byrne's first recommendation for a permanent college president since the state board hired him in May.

"Dr. Exley has all the right qualities that we need in our system and I think he will be an excellent fit for Snead," Byrne said in a statement Wednesday.

The board will consider the appointment at its Nov. 8 meeting in Montgomery.

Byrne expects to fill vacancies over the next few months at several other campuses, including Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa and Central Alabama Community College in Alexander City.
