A fishing trip led to the death of a Huntsville man on Saturday on the causeway of U.S. 31 near the Tennessee River bridge.

Limestone County Coroner Mike West reported Samuel Lemons, 43, of Huntsville died on the scene of a two-vehicle crash at about 10:50 a.m.

Lemons had reportedly parked his car on the shoulder of the northbound lane and was removing items from his trunk when he was struck from behind by another car.

“He died from blunt-force trauma to the head and legs,” West said. “He apparently was going to go fishing.”

Decatur police said the female driver of the moving car also suffered injuries and was transported to Decatur General Hospital. They did not release her name.

A police spokesman said the cause of the accident was under investigation Saturday night.
