Indictment says sex offender lived with and abused minors in Falkville

A Colorado sex offender lived with and molested two minor girls in Falkville, the Morgan County Sheriff's Department said Monday.

Sex-crimes investigators arrested Danny Charles Cunningham, 55, of 1909 Wilhite Road on Aug. 22, and a grand jury indictment returned last week expands the charges against him to include multiple counts of rape and sodomy.

Chief Deputy Mike Corley said authorities learned about Cunningham, a convicted sex offender from Mesa County, Colo., when a family member of the victims went to the Sheriff's Department.

Cunningham never notified authorities of his move to Alabama, Corley said.

"We have reason to believe he'd been here for a number of years," Corley said.

Most of the charges in the 10-count indictment stem from the abuse of two girls who were members of Cunningham's household and who were under age 12 at the times of the offenses, Corley said.

The charges include first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy, second-degree rape, second-degree sodomy, two counts of first-degree sexual abuse, violating the Community Notification Act, failure to register as a sex offender, and two counts of living in a prohibited residence with a minor.

Bond is $250,000 for Cunningham, who has remained in Morgan County Jail since his initial arrest on charges of rape, sexual abuse and failure to register.
