A man remained in jail Monday after he and his father allegedly had a fight and the father died, but authorities said the cause of death appeared to be natural.
An autopsy of Winston Timothy "Tim" Long, 52, showed he died of a heart attack, according to Morgan County Coroner Russ Beard.
Decatur police said officers arrested Timothy Christopher "Chris" Long, 23, after he attacked his father and his sister, Lindsey Ray, with his fists early Sunday.
Police took Chris Long to Decatur City Jail on two counts of third-degree domestic violence and a charge of public intoxication following the incident at Kalea Apartments, 2230 Graham Drive S.W.
An ambulance took Ray to Decatur General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, but Tim Long refused medical attention, police spokesman Capt. Vince Baer said.
About two hours later, Ray returned from the hospital and discovered Tim Long dead.
Baer said authorities conducted an autopsy "to rule out anything related to the domestic violence."
Chris Long was being held in the city jail Monday in lieu of at least $1,500 bond.
