Southern Family Markets offering free antibiotics

Southern Family Markets is battling winter illnesses by offering free antibiotics at its pharmacies.

The plan offers a 14-day supply of seven generic antibiotics prescriptions: amoxicillin, am-picillin, cephalexin, ciproflox-acin, erythromycin, penicillin vk, and sulfamethoxazole/tri-methoprim.

Mark Tow, the pharmacy director, said Southern Family Markets will offer the plan
in North Alabama stores throughout the cough and cold season.

"This is a plan we implemented to increase traffic into our pharmacies," said Judy McGowan, the company's marketing manager.

The free-antibiotics plan accompanies a generic drug program also available at the company's pharmacies.

The program offers a 90-day supply for more than 180 maintenance drugs at $11.89.
