FALKVILLE — The Falkville Town Council on Tuesday hired Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood Inc. of Birmingham for the engineering design of Falkville's $900,000 sewer upgrade.

The funds come from combined Environmental Protection Agency and community development block grants.

The grants will go toward improving sewer service on Piney Grove Street, East Main Street and Buster Road. The project will include boring underneath Interstate 65 to bring service to the BP service station on Morgan County 55 East.

Russ Roberts, a project engineer with Goodwyn Mills, worked with grant writer Terry Acuff of Consultants Inc. of Huntsville, who secured the grants. The town also appointed Acuff to administer the project.

Acuff said designing the system is the next step toward getting construction bids. He said construction will probably begin in April.
