Falkville approves vehicle seizure law

FALKVILLE — Falkville joined the growing list of Alabama towns fighting unlicensed drivers.

On Tuesday, the Falkville Town Council approved an ordinance to seize and impound vehicles where operators cannot produce a valid driver license.

Town Attorney Larry Madison said the ordinance is a collaborative effort involving the Decatur city attorney and officials with the Alabama League of Municipalities. Decatur hasn't passed such an ordinance but is considering one.

Madison said Hoover was the first city in Alabama to pass a similar ordinance, followed by Athens, Huntsville and others.

After introducing the measure, the Falkville Town Council suspended the rules to vote after Madison said, "It is a good product and is ready to go as is."
