Morgan County Board of Education

The Morgan County Board of Education took the following action during Tuesday's meeting:

  • Awarded contract to Waste Management for waste disposal and recycling at a cost of $8,579.26 for the next three school years.

  • Approved field trip for Priceville Junior High School for 11 sixth- through eighth-grade students and their chaperones Nov. 15 to the Opryland Hotel in Nashville.

  • Approved field trip for Eva School for 35 to 40 third- through eighth-grade students and their chaperones to travel to New York City on June 2-7, 2008, to research student heritage.

  • Approved the 20 percent dispersal of 2007-08 state At-Risk funds. The Mental Health Center of Morgan County is getting $37,272 to fund a crisis counselor, and Hospice of the Valley will receive $18,223 to fund grief support groups for the schools.

  • Awarded a 40-month contract to Charter Communications to provide 1,000 mbps (gigabite) wide area network and 25 mbps of Internet access with firewall and service, with the option of additional Internet access in 1-mbps increments if needed. Personnel

  • Approved homebound contracts with Stacy Hughes for a West Morgan Middle School student; Donna Banks for a Brewer High School student; Johnna Bowling for a Union Hill Student; and Cheryl Tucker for a Falkville Elementary student.

  • Hired Matthew Mooneyham, assistant soccer coach, Brewer; Mark Edwards, assistant boys varsity basketball coach, Brewer; Leanne Faulk, first-grade teacher, Danville-Neel Elementary; Thomas Kinney, assistant baseball coach, Danville High; Kristy Lott, annual staff sponsor, Sparkman School; Crystal Barnett, mini-bus driver, Sparkman; Rhonda Smith, bus aide, Sparkman; Cindy Hill, special education aide, countywide, Sparkman School; and Marylyn Melson, special education aide, countywide, placed at Sparkman School.

    ? Transferred Cameron Mahan from Union Hill School math teacher to Brewer math teacher.

  • Rescinded action naming John Raper as the girls basketball coach, Ryan School. This
    action is due to the low num-bers for the girls basketball team. He will continue to receive the boys basketball coach's supplement.

  • Transferred Christy Green from bus aide, Sparkman, to bus driver, countywide, placed at Sparkman.

  • Approved continued salary in lieu of sick leave for Betty Watson, Child Nutrition Program worker, West Morgan Elementary School.

  • Approved leave of absence for Margaret Taylor, custodian, West Morgan Elementary School.

  • Hired Ramona Cole, middle school volleyball coach, West Morgan Middle School; and Melanie Fore, CNP worker, West Morgan High School.
