Neel fire destroys mobile home
NEEL — A fire destroyed a mobile home Monday afternoon, displacing an unknown number of residents.
Buddy Lacey, assistant fire chief for Neel Volunteer Fire Department, said he could see the smoke filling the sky over the 400 block of Liberty Road from his own doorway.
"I live three miles away. When they called us, the smoke was rolling," Lacey said.
Punkin Center, Neel and Decatur firefighters rushed to scene of the 3:30 p.m. blaze, but they were unable to save the dwelling.
Lacey said firefighters arrived to find the mobile home and a camper parked next to it both fully involved.
A number of items and pieces of equipment near the residence also suffered damage.
No one was injured.
The cause of the fire remained unknown, according to Lacey.
