Missing Elkmont man found dead in truck

ATHENS — An Elkmont man missing since Saturday was found dead in his truck Monday night.

Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely said Perry Smith, 51, was found dead at about 6 p.m.

There were no visible wounds, and the body will be sent for an autopsy, but Blakely said he does not suspect foul play.

Blakely said Smith and his wife were going through a divorce and Smith left a note that indicated she would not have to bother with the divorce.

Athens attorney Tom Guthrie saw the truck Saturday in a wooded thicket off Casteel Road west of Athens near the Tennessee River. Blakely said that when Guthrie saw the truck again at about 6 p.m. Monday, he checked it out and discovered Smith slumped over the steering wheel.

Blakely said Smith was the manager of Lens Crafters in Huntsville.
