MEETING NOTES
Morgan County Commisstion

During a meeting Tuesday, the Morgan County Commission:

  • Accepted a $210,400 bid from Joe Sartain Ford for 10 police package vehicles for the Sheriff's Department.

  • Authorized the chairman to execute an agreement with the Alabama Department of Homeland Security for a $20,000 grant for the Citizens Emergency Response Team.

  • Authorized the chairman to execute an agreement with the state Department of Homeland Security for a $50,000 grant for Morgan County Emergency Management Agency to purchase portable emergency light towers. Also, authorized the chairman to advertise for bids.

  • Approved paying $200 to the Alabama Association of Emergency Managers for annual membership dues for Eddie Hicks, Johnny Cantrell, Bill Thomison and Rita Weeks.

  • Approved paying $170 to the International Association of Emergency Managers for membership dues for Hicks.

  • Authorized the chairman to execute an agreement for a $300,000 renewal grant from the state Department of Youth Services for Morgan County System of Services.

  • Approved releasing $350,000 of the Industrial Development Board of East Morgan County for improvements to the old emu processing plant at Eva.

  • Authorized the chairman to renew a contract with TruGreen Chemlawn for $4,183.23 for lawn care at the courthouse.

  • Approved sales tax refunds for S&D Coffee Inc., $551.04; and CC Mini Mart Inc., $462.57.

  • Approved a $239.63 refund for Virginia Allen for sanitation fees.

  • Approved paying $479.69 to Trident Insurance Services for deductibles on claims filed against the county.

  • Appointed David Hayes to the West Morgan Water and Fire Protection Authority to fill a six-year term that Max Reed vacated.

  • Authorized the chairman to execute an agreement with the North Alabama Highway Safety Office for $2,600 for salaries for deputies who work with highway safety law enforcement.

  • Approved certificates to subdivide or consolidate properties for Sid Martin, Perkins Wood Road and Alabama 36 in District 2; Linda Holmes, Cottonwood Lane and Jewell Lasalle Lane in District 3; Don and Helen Fields, Alabama 157 and Danville and Fields roads in District 3; Estate of J.O. Sims, Garrison Road and Targum Road in District 2; Danny and Emily Carter with the Tennessee Valley Authority, Substation Road in District 4; Millard and Mary Yoder and Samuel and Arlene Nisly, Reeder Road in District 3.

  • Approved paying a partial bill of $1,102.50 to Harris, Caddell and Shanks P.C. for legal services for October.
