AREA NEWS IN BRIEF

Injured trucker out of hospital

A Huntsville Hospital spokeswoman said Thursday that physicians discharged the Illinois trucker injured in a collision Sunday morning with Priceville Police Chief Billy Peebles.

The hospital previously listed Lawton Atkins, 53, of Poplar Grove in serious condition in the neuro-intensive care unit.

Peebles said Atkins, while making a U-turn on Alabama 67, drove his tractor-trailer into the passenger side of his patrol car.

Peebles was treated at Decatur-General Hospital and released.

He expects to return to work Monday.
