Utilities board OKs water tank space for antennae

The Decatur Municipal Utilities Board approved a resolution to permit telecommunications antennae on two existing water tanks.

If approved by the City Council, the resolution would allow Clear Wire, LLC, to erect the antennae on the Walter Jackson and Boys Club water tanks at an annual cost of $16,500 per tank.

DU Interim General Manager Stan Keenum said DU already leases space on the water tanks to other carriers.

In the lease agreement, DU would specify the position of the antennae and the wires while Clear Wire would assume responsibility for the installation and maintenance of the equipment.

Income accumulated from the lease would go in DU's water budget.
