Parade of Lights to illuminate Tennessee River

The annual Parade of Lights will set the Tennessee River aglow Dec. 1 beginning at 6 p.m.

Sponsored by Extreme Marine Boat Sales and Services and the Riverwalk Yacht Club, the event usually features a dozen or more boats lavishly decorated with lights. Some boats will have more than 5,000 lights.

The twinkling flotilla will take its usual route, making a circle from the marina entrance, west to the Railroad Bridge, east in front of Rhodes Ferry Park and then back into the marina.

“The best viewing will be at Rhodes Ferry Park, the Hard Dock Cafe and the marina entrance,” said Nathalyne Cucarola, RYC commodore.

The marina and yacht club invite parade watchers to bring a canned food item to the marina or park and drop them off in designated collection bins. The cans will go to a local food bank.

Decatur’s downtown Christmas parade will be Dec. 3 at 6 p.m.
