New superintendent needs parent support

Crestline Elementary School Principal Joe Walters had grassroots support to become Hartselle's next school superintendent.

But so did the other local candidates, who also failed to get the job Thursday night.

Instead, the school board selected veteran educator William Reed who is superintendent of Butler County schools.

The situation has the ingredients for carrying political grudges.

Hopefully, that won't be the case in Hartselle where everyone looks with pride on the schools.

The vote to hire Dr. Reed was unanimous, although he obviously was not the first choice of two members.

That board members voted unanimously to hire Dr. Reed should say to the community that the hiring is done and now it's time for everyone to get to work educating children.
