Walter Jackson school, going strong, turns 50

Some of the people attending today's birthday party for Walter Jackson Elementary School might be musing about how quickly time flies.

Others may use the occasion to examine the changes, both to the neighborhood and to the school over the decades.

But all who go back for this morning's party must take satisfaction in knowing that Walter Jackson, even at 50, continues as one of Decatur's finest.

Walter Jackson is part of the highly successful Mobile Math Initiative and the Reading Initiative.

It has two Destination Teams that teach children to be creative and to develop critical thinking.

Located in a quiet area of Southeast Decatur on an expansive campus, Walter Jackson continues to fight the older-school syndrome and win.

Happy Birthday!
