City continues to improve parks, recreation facilities

Decatur residents are fortunate to have some of the finest recreation facilities in the state.

The city operates four community recreation centers, an indoor and outdoor pools, Wilson Morgan softball and tennis complex, Point Mallard and 22 parks encompassing 500 acres dotting the landscape of the city.

There are 12 developed playgrounds, 28 lighted tennis courts, and many laser-graded soccer, football, baseball and softball fields.

Keeping those facilities maintained is a big job. But city officials in successive administrations continue to improve them. The recent construction of the Southwest Recreation Center off Modaus Road and improvements to Day Park, Delano Park and Point Mallard demonstrate the city's commitment to its park facilities.

Those improvements may attract visitors and tourism dollars.

But more importantly they improve the quality of life for area residents.
