Welcome to the Valley, Vice President Cheney

While opinion polls show the Bush administration's popularity continuing to slip, Vice President Dick Cheney won't find the faithful disgruntled in Morgan County, when he visits Monday.

Morgan County is Bush Country.

The vice president will find a warm and receptive audience when he addresses a $250 a plate luncheon audience at Celebration Arena at Priceville.

The event is a fundraiser for his fellow Republican, U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt, who is seeking his sixth term.

It's not often that the nation's top elected officials make their way to Morgan County. The last time was when our late President Ronald Reagan addressed an estimated 65,000 people at the Spirit of America Festival on July 4, 1984.

Monday's event is purely political, and means that Republicans do care about the South and particularly Alabama.

So, welcome, Mr. Vice President, to the Tennessee Valley, and especially to Priceville, where the event must be about the biggest thing to happen since the arrival of Interstate 65.
