Beauty awards are sign people care about city

After awhile, beautification isn't doing something extra. That's because it becomes part of the daily routine.

Many of the 55 firms that won city beautification awards last week now fall into that category. Not only is it routine, but beautification has become part of their corporate culture.

We salute those firms and hope that the example they set will encourage other businesses to go after one of these awards.

Meow Mix won its first award this year after buying the cat food plant in 2002. It took three years to win, but as Meow Mix's Lynn Walker noted, winning isn't just about pride; beautification is good business.
