State Archives best place for Wallace-era material

The state Department of Archives and History is the proper place to save and display the Wallace family memorabilia instead of having it displayed in a museum.

Two truckloads of items belonging to former Govs. George and Lurleen Wallace came home to Alabama recently after spending a decade in an Atlanta warehouse.

The family had hoped to fund a museum and research center in Montgomery, but plans didn't materialize after George Wallace died in 1998.

The state Archives is the best place to objectively display items and papers from the Wallace era and the couple who had such an impact on Alabama and the nation.

The Wallace story needs an objective telling.
