No more excuses, Bama got its coach
When Paul "Bear" Bryant returned to The University of Alabama as head football coach for the 1958 season, Auburn University head coach Ralph "Shug" Jordan supposedly said something like, "We'll have to put the pads on."
Alabama football fans hope Nick Saban finally will be the coach to fill The Bear's long-empty shoes.
Bryant once flirted with coaching the pro team that Saban is leaving, but decided to stay on campus.
The lure of the campus atmosphere and the challenge of returning the Alabama football program to prominence may have prompted Saban to reconsider the Bama job and leave the Miami Dolphins after compiling a two-year losing record.
Alabama got the coach it wanted after firing Mike Shula in November. Now there should be no more worn-out excuses for not winning the big games.
