Crossings offers local shoppers more options

Shopping in Decatur will be more convenient beginning today.

Target, the anchor store at The Crossings of Decatur, will open its doors after a ribbon cutting at 6 p.m.

Other retailers planned for the center at Alabama 67 and U.S. 31 include Old Navy, rue21, Ross Dress for Less, PetSmart, Rack Room Shoes. Five Guys Famous Burgers & Fries, Panera Bread Co., Lifeway Christian Store, Hibbett Sports and Nails First. There is room for more tenants in the 26-acre site at the intersection of the city's busiest streets.

The city invested $4.77 million to purchase the land for the development. It expects to recoup that investment through increased sales tax collections in the next six to 15 years.

But the real beneficiaries are residents of Decatur, Hartselle, Trinity, Priceville and the surrounding area who will no longer have to cross the river to Madison or Huntsville to get some of the products and selection they want.

Welcome to Decatur, Target.
