Ex-chancellor’s wife’s pay shows policy needs review
Fired two-year college system Chancellor Roy Johnson’s family has done well financially at state expense.
The latest news is that his wife, Linda Johnson, was paid for 14 months after leaving her job as an executive assistant at Southern Union State Community College in Opelika.
She continued receiving more than $2,300 a week while on paid leave, according to The Birmingham News. She claimed 232 days of sick pay, 69 days of vacation and four days of personal leave.
She was required only to submit a letter from her doctor authorizing the sick leave, according to the current chancellor, Bradley Byrne.
Apparently it was all OK under system policy and state law.
“It may be that we need to take another look at system policy,” Mr. Byrne said. “It does seem to be pretty excessive.”
You know, he’s got a point there.
