LETTERS TO THE EDITOR|
Call it what it is: Christmas
THE DECATUR DAILY:
Since when did Moulton become politically correct? What is wrong with calling it a Christmas parade? I am ashamed that Moulton has bent over backwards for the politically correct. My family and I still celebrate the birth of Christ, and we still call this time of the year Christmas time.
Children need discipline; bus drivers, therapy
THE DECATUR DAILY:
After seeing on the TV on Dec. 1, when a bus driver carried his students to a police station because they were so unruly, I felt compelled to write.
As a former bus driver, I can attest to the fact that children today are often disruptive on the bus creating an unsafe situation for all concerned, the children, driver and those who are around that bus. At the bus barn, we often saw videos of student behavior and how disorderly these children act. Whether or not they act this way at home is another subject. But these children's complete lack of respect for authority has me wondering: If they act this way now, how will they be when they grow up?
A principal once told me that bus drivers are either extremely brave or crazy. When asked to clarify her statement, she replied that teachers won't turn their backs to the students for 10 minutes, whereas drivers must have their backs turned to the little darlings for up to 30 minutes or more each morning and afternoon.
I wonder what it will take for school personnel and parents to realize that children have more "rights" than the adults. The fact is that they do, and they take advantage of these rights on a daily basis.
What are we really teaching our children? Whatever happened to discipline? Has it been totally replaced with "time-outs" and "No star for you today, Susie. You said a bad word" stuff? Puhleeze. In the words of Earl Pitts, "Wake Up America" before it's too late.
