County soccer tournament helped Enterprise recovery

To The Daily: We would like to offer a big “Thank You” to local soccer players and their families for coming together at the Morgan County Soccer Tournament. Because of Austin, Brewer, Decatur, Hartselle, Priceville and West Morgan high schools, Morgan County was able to send a donation of $150 to the Enterprise High School soccer program.

The day the tornado hit Enterprise, both boys and girls varsity soccer teams had games scheduled. The Enterprise players had their soccer bags with uniforms, shin guards and cleats at school. They lost everything. Their fields, goals, and other equipment were also damaged — much of it beyond repair.

The only way to deal with a tragedy of this magnitude was to try to get the students’ lives back to normal as soon as possible. With the donations from the Morgan County tournament, this might happen a little sooner.

During the Morgan County tournament there were wins, losses, injuries and rivalries, but all that was put aside when they realized another soccer community had been torn apart. I am proud to be a part of the Morgan County soccer programs because anyone involved in soccer knows this sport leads to lifelong friendships, lasting long after the last whistle has been blown. Maybe we made some new friends in Enterprise.

The money donated at the tournament was part of a statewide effort by school soccer programs, which has raised thousands of dollars for the Enterprise school system.
