LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Space exploration, war take needed funds from border patrols, bridges

To The Daily: With plentiful federal money, we now know there is or is not water on Mars and that we need to know for sure; that Sen. Bob Dole is happy in his dotage; that we can destroy a bridge across the Euphrates any time we want; and that we would be making great progress in democratizing the various religious sects of the Middle East, if they would only pay attention to our wishes.

Those initiatives leave us a little short financially, so we can’t take care of our country’s borders well enough so that we know who is coming in and going out. We have also just recently learned of shortcomings in the design and construction of our major bridges.

This “big picture” stuff managed from the District of Columbia sure is expensive.
