Centering Prayer workshop, retreat

An introductory workshop on Centering Prayer, a contemplative tradition that Catholics have used for hundreds of years, will be in Mountain Brook at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Jan. 20, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The cost is $30 per person, including lunch.

Also, an introduction to Centering Prayer retreat will be at Benedictine Sisters Retreat Center in Cullman, Jan. 26, 7 p.m., through Jan. 28, 1 p.m. The cost is $175.

Contemplative Outreach Birmingham will have a conference at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Birmingham Feb. 10, 9:30 a.m., through Feb. 11, 4 p.m. The Rev. Cynthia Bourgeault, an author, scholar, hermit and Episcopal priest, will be speaker.

Rick Warren church on Fox Channel

“The Purpose of Christmas with Rick Warren” will be telecast on Fox News Channel on Sunday and Monday. Warren is pastor of Saddleback Valley Community Church and author of “The Purpose Driven Life” and other popular books.

The Christmas Eve telecast will be at 7 and 9 p.m. The Christmas Day telecast will be at 5 and 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
