Sing, pray on New Year's Eve

Watch Night, a tradition of praying, preaching and singing the New Year in, will be observed by many local congregations.

Other churches are planning communion or other worship services.

These are among special services on New Year's Eve:

Little Elk Missionary Baptist Church, joint Watch Night service with Poplar Creek M. B. and Mount Pisgah M. B. churches, 10:30 p.m. DeWayne High, a Lee High School senior, will speak. A combined youth praise choir will sing.

St. Paul's Lutheran Church, worship, 7 p.m.

Athens First Presbyterian Church, come-and-go communion, 6 to 7 p.m.

Ninth Street United Methodist Church, Covenant Renewal Service, 11 p.m. Fellowship, 7 p.m.

New Life Missionary Baptist Church, Athens, Kingdom Builders Fellowship Watch Night service, 10 p.m. Guests will be the Rev. Edward Owens and Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Host pastors are the Rev. Antoyne Green, the Rev. Gary Battles and the Rev. John Jude. Call 233-7228.

Calvary Assembly of God, service with Tommy Tenney, 6 p.m.

Faith Independent Church, Bell Springs Road, Lacon, singing, 8 p.m., featuring The Faith Trio and others.

King's Memorial United Methodist Church, Watch Meeting, 9 p.m. Preachers are invited to speak. Call 303-5969.

Friendship United Methodist, Athens, 11:15 p.m. Activities in fellowship hall, 8 p.m.

Emmanuel Baptist Church, Athens, fellowship and worship, 7 p.m. to midnight.
