Events said to show Jesus' nature
The Feast of Epiphany on Jan. 6 celebrates for many Christians the visit of wise men to baby Jesus.
According to church tradition, the Magi were the first Gentiles (non-Jews) to understand Jesus' divinity.
The wise men followed the light of a star to find Jesus, according to Matthew's gospel.
Some believers use Jan. 6 to mark the baptism of Jesus or his first miracle — turning water into wine at a wedding in Cana.
All of the events are manifestations of Jesus as God, they say.
The word isn't unique to Christianity. One of the names of Zeus was Epiphanes, "the manifest one."
