Boys & Girls Club program at church

Hartselle First Baptist Church has opened an after-school program through the Boys & Girls Club. Sessions are Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3 to 5 p.m. Thomas Edwards, minister of students and recreation, said the program includes snacks, homework, tutoring and activities in the church gym.

He said the church was looking for ways to reach out and help the community and welcomed the approach from the Boys & Girls Club. The church is underwriting some of the cost and charging $10 per year per child, Edwards said. For now, volunteers are staffing the program, he said. Parents may stop by the church office, 210 Woodland St. N.W., to register children. Call 773-5500.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham gospel choir will give a free public performance in Decatur on Tuesday, 7 to 9 p.m., at St. James Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 900 W. Moulton St.

The Decatur Youth Enrichment Choir will sing first, followed by the UAB choir, which includes several members from this area and is returning from a tour to the Chicago area. Call 345-8114 for information.
