Youth ‘Code Blue’ crusade next week

Youth Pastors 4 Unity is presenting the “Code Blue: Has Your Heart Stopped Beating for God?” crusade during spring break. The Souls in Da City event will be at three churches in three towns.

The opening service Thursday will be at Wheeler Chapel Church, Courtland. Friday’s service will be at Solomon Temple Church, U.S. 31 in Athens. The March 24 service will be at Emmanuel Church on Central Parkway Southwest in Decatur. All services start at 6:30 p.m.

India House offers Buddhist retreat

A Zen Buddhist retreat will be in Huntsville at India House, 2200 Holmes Ave., April 26 at 7 p.m. through April 29 at 10:30 a.m. The guiding teacher will be Zen Master Bomum (George Bowman) of the Furnace Mountain Zen Center in Kentucky.

Bomum has studied and taught in China, Korea, Japan, Europe and the U.S.

The event is part of Buddha Day Celebration, concluding with a ceremony and luncheon April 29 at noon.

The retreat fee is $100 for the full time or $50 for either April 27 or April 28. Scholarships are available. Vegetarian meals will be included. Registration is required by April 16. Call Gary Beard at 655-9017.

Lenten noonday series in Athens

A series of community Lenten services continues on Wednesdays this month at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Athens. Short services at noon are followed by lunches.

The Rev. Sam Hobson of Athens First Presbyterian Church will speak Wednesday with Central Church of Christ providing lunch. The Rev. Charlie Alookaran of St. Paul’s Catholic Church will speak March 28 with Athens First Christian Church providing lunch.
